TMNT Redesign Project: Splinter

Each year for our Patreon during July, our supporters pick a property and Adam does a complete ground-up redesign. In 2020, the winner was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - one of Adam's favorite things, and something he'd wanted to take a swing at redesigning for a long time. This is the result. Enjoy!

Gave Splinter a bit more of a samurai bearing; regal and stately. His walking stick is a sword-cane; we like versions of Splinter where he's still vital and active despite his age.

His head came first. We liked pieces of several of these; the one in the middle was kind of a favorite, but felt too young. That would be Splinter when he first found the turtles. We added the hair of #4 and longer whiskers from #2.

We had a sense of his body from the start - long and lean, like a rat on two legs would be. The only questions were how stooped would he be and how long would his legs be. We settled on the most heroic silhouette for him.

Having a sense of his body and head, we like to do studies to see him in motion and make sure he can move and emote the way we want him to. He looked good, but did he *feel* like Splinter?
